Jesse Marie’s Rosin Decarboxylation and Infusion Recipe from Scratch
Ingredients
4 oz coconut oil (alternatively you can use 4 oz butter, clarified is best, but unsalted butter will work just fine, or 4 oz olive oil. Coconut oil is the best option due to the high saturated fat content which will absorb more cannabinoids)
0.5g to 1g of your favorite live rosin
Equipment
Mason jar with lid
Sauce Pot
Trivet
Directions
Decarboxylation for Rosin
1. Put your favorite rosin into a mason jar and close the mason jar only finger tight. Sealing the lid is important to keep those lovely terps for flavor and effect!
2. Place mason jar with cannabis on top of a trivet in a sauce pot on the stove top. Fill with water up to the level of your rosin in the jar (not too much water, you don’t want your mason jar to be floating!).
3. Remove the jar from water and bring the water to a boil. Reduce the water down to a simmer and when water is at a simmer, place the sealed mason jar with rosin on top of the trivet. Let that simmer for 30-40 minutes. You’ll know the rosin is decarboxylating when the rosin starts to bubble. When the rosin stop bubbling, it is done decarboxylating and ready to bake with!
4. Pro tip: let the jar cool before opening; this will help maintain the flavor of the terpenes, as they will adhere to the edge of the jar as it cools.
Making the Infusion
1. Once your decarbed rosin has cooled down pour 4 oz. of your oil or butter of choice into the mason jar over your decarbed rosin. Stir to incorporate, it helps if the fat base is warm so you can let the rosin just melt into the fatty infusion and continue to stir to make sure your rosin is evenly infused. Seal the mason jar shut once again, but only finger tight.
2. Place mason jar with melted butter or oil and decarboxylated rosin on top of a trivet in a sauce pot on the stove top. Fill with water up to the level of your infused oil/butter in the jar (not higher so the jar doesn’t float). Remove the jar and bring the water to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and place your mason jar in the water on top of the trivet. Let simmer for 1 hour. Be careful to keep an eye on the water level, you may need to add in more water as some of it will evaporate.
